WELCOME & ANNOUNCEMENTS

GATHERING HYMN 382 Christ Is Risen! Allelulia!

1

Christ is risen! Hallelujah! Risen our victorious Head; Sing His praises; Hallelujah! Christ is risen from the dead. Gratefully our hearts adore Him, As His light once more appears; Bowing down in joy before Him, Rising up from griefs and tears.

Christ is risen: Hallelujah! Risen our victorious Head; Sing His praises; Hallelujah! Christ is risen from the dead.

2

Christ is risen! All the sadness Of His earthly life is o’er; Through the open gates of gladness He returns to life once more; Death and hell before Him bending, He doth rise the Victor now, Angels on His steps attending, Glory round His wounded brow.

CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS

P: You are the God of love; the Giver of love; the one whose love sent Jesus Christ to live, die and rise from the dead. Because you love us, we can confidently confess our sin.

C: You love us, choose us, and call us to live in love for others. We admit we cannot love you, love one another, or love our neighbors as we should. Forgive us, and by the power of your Holy Spirit, give us new life that only comes from you. Teach us to trust in your love and not our own. Call us into your deeper purposes for the sake of your kingdom.

P: Your love for us is most evident in sacrificial life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We are Easter people who live in the promise of resurrection living.

C: Because of your love for us we can live in peace. (Silence for reflection & prayer)

P: You change our mourning into dancing. You bring light into the middle of our darkness. you bring joy where there is only sadness. You give new life to those who are dead in sin. Because of you, we can live into your deeper purposes for us and for your kingdom.

C: We praise you! We worship you! Amen!

PRAYER of the DAY

P: Almighty God,

C: with joy we celebrate the day of our Lord’s resurrection. By the grace of Christ among us, enable us to show the power of the resurrection in all that we say and do, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

READINGS

Acts 4:32-35

32Now the whole group of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one claimed private ownership of any possessions, but everything they owned was held in common. 33With great power the apostles gave their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. 34There was not a needy person among them, for as many as owned lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold. 35They laid it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need.

1 John 1:1-2:2

1We declare to you what was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the word of life—2this life was revealed, and we have seen it and testify to it, and declare to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us—3we declare to you what we have seen and heard so that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. 4We are writing these things so that our joy may be complete. 5This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in him there is no darkness at all. 6If we say that we have fellowship with him while we are walking in darkness, we lie and do not do what is true; 7but if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. 8If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. 2:1My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous; 2and he is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.

John 20:19-31

HOLY GOSPEL

P: The Holy Gospel of John Chapter 20 and I read in Jesus name.

C: Glory to you O Lord. (Reading of the Gospel)

19When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” 20After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. 21Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” 22When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.” 24But Thomas (who was called the Twin), one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. 25So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands, and put my finger in the mark of the nails and my hand in his side, I will not believe.” 26A week later his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” 27Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe.” 28Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!” 29Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe.” 30Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book. 31But these are written so that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life in his name.

P: The Gospel of the Lord

C: Praise to You, O Christ.

CHILDREN’S MESSAGE

SERMON

HYMN OF THE DAY: 380 Hallelujah! Jesus Lives!

1 Halleujah! Jesus lives! He is now the Living One; from the gloomy halls of death Christ, the Conqueror, has gone, bright forerunner to the skies of his people, yet to rise.

2 Jesus lives! Why do you weep? Why that sad and mournful sigh? Christ who died our brother here lives our brother still on high, lives forever to bestow blessings on his church below.

3 Jesus lives! And thus, my soul, life eternal waits for you; joined to Christ, your living head, where he is, you shall be too; with the Lord, at God's right hand, as a victor you shall stand.

4 Jesus lives! Let all rejoice. Praise him, ransomed of the earth. Praise him in a nobler song, cherubim of heav'nly birth. Praise the victor king, whose sway sin and death and hell obey.

5 Hallelujah! Angels, sing! Join with us in hymns of praise. Let your chorus swell the strain which our feebler voices raise: Glory to our God above and on earth his peace and love!

STATEMENT OF FAITH: THE APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended to the dead; on the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

P: . . . Hear us, O God.

C: Your mercy is great.

OFFERING

Members and friends, the mission and ministry of this congregation is completely dependent upon your generous giving. Our offering is a significant act of worship, and we now worship God through our giving. If you have brought your offering with you today, please place it in the basket in the back as you leave. You may send your giving to the church office or give through the link on our website. Thank you for supporting our ministry.

LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

SENDING HYMN: 376 Thine is the Glory

Thine is the glory risen conquering Son; Endless is the victory Thou o'er death hast won!

Angels in bright raiment rolled the stone away, Kept the folded grave clothes Where Thy body lay.

Refrain: Thine is the glory, risen conquering Son; Endless is the victory thou o'er death hast won!

Lo, Jesus meets us risen from the tomb! Lovingly, He greets, thee scatters fear and gloom;

Let his church with gladness hymns of triumph sing, For the Lord now liveth; death hath lost its sting! Refrain

No more we doubt Thee, glorious Prince of life; Life is naught without Thee; aid us in our strife;

Make us more than conquerors, through Thy deathless love; Bring us safe through Jordan to Thy home above. Refrain
